Practice Putting Greens Drill

Despite putting being more than half the average players game strokes, no-one really pays enough attention to their putting game, and most do not take advantage of practice putting greens when they should. There are many good drills that can only be done on a home surface, such as a simple mirror drill. Most people never have a straight take-away, which almost always results in a poor strike of the ball, and decreased accuracy. This drill will surely increase it.

A putting motion should be as simple as possible in order to have consistently straight puts, and puts that you can weight precisely. A great practice exercise in order to gain betting putting fluidity is explained below, and can be attempted on any backyard greens.

This is known as the mirror drill: indeed, like at a driving range, we need to use a big mirror, so that we are able to analyse the whole of our set up, including the feet, hand positioning, the takeaway, etc... Often there are several movements we add subconsciously, and that we do not know are taking place as we putt. Using a mirror in this way gives you the opportunity to see exactly how you strike the ball and alter the swing as need be.

Putting is at heart a very basic motion, that many people overcomplicate. After all, who really needs a belly putter. I find, for instance, that keep my backstroke fairly short improves my accuracy dramatically, although pacing the put becomes a little tougher, but I will get used to this in time, no doubt. Bizarrely enough, you might want to try putting using a left-putter, or righty if you were already left-handed. I had a bad case of the yips, and cannot really putt right handed anymore. Very strange, but true. If your putting is really awful one way around, I would suggest trying to re-learn it the other way around, because it means no bad habits need to be unlearnt, and it will speed things up big time.

It is worth mentioning again that, like chipping in your back garden helps with your short game, access to practice putting greens can have a seriously positive impact on your scorecard, and rather surprisingly for most people, building putting green is not nearly as expensive as you might have previously imagined. Most home builds are on wasted space, so why not optimize your garden by putting that lawn to work! Putting greens are not exactly an eyesore either, if they are installed well, they can look lovely.

In conclusion, what could possibly be better in the long term for your game than a home putting green? Everyone knows that the trick to becoming a scratch golfer is two-putting from anywhere, and the only way you will be able to achieve that is a lot of practice, and some good approaches!
